Testimonials [written by real customers, brackets are our comment]

I received the DVD the other day. I know Dad will be thrilled! Thanks for all you did [to play these old 9 1/2mm movies]. Ginny

Thank you for making my 35mm SLIDE SHOW DVDs so easy to use. I love the way they fade in and off the screen. I have been so anxious for my brother and his wife to see them. Thamk you for all the kindness you have extended to me. Agnes

Thank you so much for the time and effort you have put into helping us with these [35mm] slides.  The DVD is wonderful. Mom is beside herself with satisfaction, she was impressed with every aspect of your work including the professional DVD labeling. I was astonished at the Hi-Resolution pictures. [This is] a chance to focus on something other than the pain [of her illness]. I am so grateful to be sharing this with her. A very personal thank you. Jay C.

Thanks for a great job. Enclosed is a check for the 2 additional DVDs and postage. Pat H.

Myself and family were quite satisfied with the 8mm film on DVD and the photos you sent by email, thanks. Don N.

FAQ

Can you save fire damaged movie film?

We can not work magic as this reel of fire damaged (melted) film would require; however, as is usually the case,

all was not lost. The outer layers were cut away and much of the film was recovered onto DVD.

Can you make still photos from movie tape or movie film?
Yes, still photos printed on paper or electronic files can be easily made from movie film and any media.

What is the run time of DVDs and movie film?

DVD holds approx 1600 feet of 8mm film (approx 32 fifty foot reels).

How do I make a slideshow with music?

Let's consider that there are three basic skills needed to make a slideshow. We will need digital photo files: they may come from a scanner, camera, or existing photo files. Next, we will need a slideshow program that will combine photos and music onto disks. And lastly, we will need a disk burner and know how to use it in order to make DVDs.

We could burn photo files onto a DVD, pop it into most DVD players, and it will play as a slideshow with no other software needed (each DVD player has its own menus of course). However, we cannot include music using this method. Having photos AND music requires us to use a slideshow program.

There are many programs available; some say they are free; but expect to pay for necessary “plug-ins” to finish the job. 30-day trial downloads can be useful, but often also lack “plug-ins” you will need. Expect to pay about $40 for a program including music selections and DVD encoding. I like nero PhotoShow Deluxe; it is simple and includes several music types and DVD encoder. Other possibilities include Simple Star PhotoShow, Microsoft Photo Story (free), and Memories to TV (I have only used Simple Star). Buy all software on disks when possible, you can reload it if necessary. If it is only available for download, “Save to Disk” into a new folder and save the folder to a CD or DVD before you install it.

The basic steps for making a show go something like this: IMPORT the photo files into your program and save in a New Folder the program prompts you for. Select which photos are included in the slideshow, drag them around to change the order, add transitions between photos, add subtitles, and determine the time photos will be displayed. Many programs have modes that will automatically select music, timing, and transitions based on a theme or mood that you select. You Watch and Edit the show on your computer until it looks and sounds right, then Burn it to disk. I prefer photos displayed about six seconds, simple transitions, and instrumental music; I think ‘words’ in music and cute transitions usually detract from slideshows (perhaps it is my simple mind?).

I hope this sounds easy enough for everyone to try. Keep in mind when working on your Genealogy Book or making a slideshow that our single goal is to SHARE IT WITH OTHERS. Don’t get lost in the process or buried (pun!) in the details. Even if it is not perfect- get it done and share. http://www.greentreeav.com/
