Gray Audograph Records transferred to CD or audio files

Gray Audograph record is a flexible blue grooved record with a star hub
Gray Audograph record, flexible blue
grooved records with a star hub.
Gray Audograph disks $35 each.
Blue flexible grooved disk with star hub in center; plays at non-standard variable speed. 1950's.

Manufactured by Gray Manufacturing company of Hartford Conn. for use in Gray Audograph Soundwriter recording machines.  The blue vinyl disks are played at variable speed starting from the ceter and playing outward towards the edge. The variable rpm was done to achieve a constand velocity under the needle and is achieved by an amazing mechanical design.  Groove spacing is approx. .005 inches, .125mm.  Disks are commonly 6 and 8.5"-inch indiameter and play for 30 and 60 minutes (including both sides).  The disks could be "resurfaced" to remove the groves so they could be reused several times. The common Soundwriter machine would record/ playback both size disks.

What folks are saying...
All was received here today in good order.  File #13 [wave files on thumbdrive from Gray Audograph disks] contains my Grandmother and my Mother singing solo and duets. Overwhelming. Thank you again for your expertise and commitment to make this happen.  Jack, Srring, Texas TX  77379.

Got the CD [from the Gray disks] today and am so pleased. I am 63 years old. That was my father and me on the CD. I have never heard myself talk or sing as an almost 2 year old!  So fun to listen to it! thanks, Pam, Knoxville Tennessee, TN  37919.

I received the recordings today. The [mp3] files [on my flashdrive] sound great. Thanks you so much for the chance to hear what my grandmother sounded like!  Rebecca, Goffstown New Hampshire, NH 03045.

Thanks for the great job on the [2 small and 3 large] Gray transcription disks. It was fun for my wife to hear her cousins from 1950 or so. Jeff, Merced CA  95341.

WOW and Thanks! Mark.

My Mother, Brother, Two Aunts, One Uncle, and Two Cousins who are on the recording [blue Gray Audograph disks] and myself want to thank you for the successful recovery process. I thought my mother would have a hard time listening to my Father (she is 82) but she laughed at the parts where she heard herself laughing on the blue disks. Thanks for everything, Rodney.
